WHAT BIOPHILIC DESIGN MEANS AT SUEÑOS DEL MAR
Biophilic design is often reduced to a visual idea: add plants, use natural materials, create a green wall.
The more meaningful interpretation is broader. It asks how architecture can strengthen a person’s everyday relationship with the natural environment.
At Sueños del Mar, that relationship begins with the way spaces open, connect and frame the tropical setting.
NATURE AS PART OF THE PLAN
Gardens are not intended only as decoration around completed buildings. Landscape is part of the way the community is organized—from private gardens and terraces to the shared forest, aquatic environments and outdoor movement spaces.
Inside the residences, generous openings, natural light and a close relationship between interior and exterior are central to the experience.
WATER AS A DAILY ELEMENT
Private pools are integrated into most residence models, while The Oasis creates a larger shared aquatic environment at the center of the community.
Water changes how a tropical home feels. It can cool the visual environment, reflect light, create movement and extend the experience of the terrace beyond the edge of the building.
LIGHT, AIR AND TRANSITION
Tropical architecture is often most successful in the spaces that are neither completely inside nor completely outside: shaded terraces, covered transitions, garden edges and openings that make breeze and daylight part of the room.
Those thresholds are especially important in Costa Rica, where outdoor life can be part of the daily routine throughout the year.
THE FOREST AS EXPERIENCE
Guacamayos Forest takes the idea beyond the residence. A one-kilometer trail, elevated walkways and four forest platforms create opportunities to walk, pause, gather and observe the changing landscape.
The goal is not to claim that architecture can recreate nature. It is to make the existing relationship with nature easier to experience.
