Marina, Golf & Sport Fishing: Exploring Herradura And Los Sueños

A DIFFERENT SIDE OF THE COAST.

Six kilometers can change the mood entirely.

North of Jacó, Herradura Bay curves into the Central Pacific with tropical hills at either side. At one end of the bay, Los Sueños adds a highly developed marina, golf and sport-fishing environment to a coastline already rich in beaches and forest.

For residents of the Jacó area, the appeal is not the need to live inside a resort.

It is regional proximity to these experiences, subject to current conditions and third-party availability.

THE MARINA

The Costa Rica Marina Association lists Los Sueños Marina with 200 wet slips in Herradura Bay. It was the first government-approved marina operating in Costa Rica and today serves yachts, sport-fishing boats and a major charter/tournament culture.

A marina changes the relationship with the coast. The Pacific stops being only something viewed from shore and becomes a point of departure.

Boating. Fishing. Open water. Early departures before sunrise. Returning as the light softens over the bay.

THE GOLF COURSE

La Iguana Golf Course, associated with Los Sueños Marriott, is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Ted Robinson. Its own official site describes the layout as set within tropical rainforest, with ocean views, native planting and wildlife present around the course.

The experience is distinctly Costa Rican—not because golf changes, but because the environment around the game does.

THE SPORT-FISHING CULTURE

Herradura is also one of the Central Pacific’s most established sport-fishing bases.

The official Los Sueños Triple Crown tournament site describes the Central Pacific as a premier billfishing destination. In the 2026 series, dozens of teams participated across three legs, with thousands of billfish releases recorded during tournament competition.

The numbers are impressive, but the culture is more interesting: captains, crews, anglers, marina activity and a seasonal rhythm tied to the ocean.

For someone living near Jacó, Herradura demonstrates the value of regional proximity.

You do not need a private golf course inside your neighborhood to play nearby.

You do not need to live at a marina to spend time on the water.

You do not need every amenity to exist behind one gate.

A sophisticated location can offer access to a wider lifestyle while allowing home to remain something different.

THE SUEÑOS DEL MAR CONNECTION

Sueños del Mar is intentionally residential rather than resort-like.
